Day two: Padre Picetti

Day Two: Padre Picetti
Can’t believe my luck! Today, here at the Gemini offices lecture theatre I was able to attend a ceremony honouring an amazing man, Padre Picetti. He is one of the fathers of astronomy in Chile. Quite elderly, he is known to be an extraordinary educator of young physicists and astronomers. He uses very creative tools to help his students absorb complex concepts. His sculptural models are world famous. I was able to actually meet him today after the ceremony and have been invited to see his lab and the observatory he built just outside La Serena. He has used historical Inca star maps in his work and has used creative art as a tool to help his students understand what we know of the cosmos.
